LOGOS, PATHOS, ETHOS

When analyzing the speeches made in terms of logos, pathos, and ethos first looking at Fannie Lou Hamer you can tell she is really trying to evoke passion from her speech. She is targeting pathos to show how she was not allowed certain liberties other people were allowed and not only that she gave accounts of which she was beaten because she was in the minority. She uses logos to appeal to the common person and for them to realize that this is not an acceptable way to treat someone. That there is something wrong if you can be pulled out of a bus and jailed, as well as getting beat in jail. She touches on our ability to trust, ethos, by putting a negative image in our heads of the people that we are supposed to trust.
Stokely Carmichael also uses a lot of pathos. He tries to speak in a way in which will get people riled up and make them take action. He addresses the need for action in his last two paragraphs. In his speech using pathos he gets people to feel for black people as a race and realize that the treatment they are receiving is not fair. He uses pathos in conjunction with logos to show how it is not only wrong but illogical and at the end says that if it is not changed then the black community will have to take action.

My Beliefs....at this moment in my life

When you first grasp the question of what I believe my first thoughts is to go directly into my religious beliefs. I believe that throughout my life that I have always put those two things together almost self-consciously. Trying to look at my beliefs from a different viewpoint I think the most important of my beliefs is that I believe in people. I believe that everyone person is genuinely a good person at heart. I believe that if we help people to get back on their feet that the will try to do there best to stay self-dependent. I believe in doing the little things to help people and that every little bit counts.

In a not as serious point of view I believe that the most important thing in life is to have fun and make memories. Sitting at home on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or any day of the night is not good for people. I believe that having friends to be there with you no matter what in fights and laughter is the best thing you can ask for. I believe that T.V. should be viewed as just entertainment and if you do not like what is being aired than just don’t watch it. In that respect I believe that reality T.V. is scripted but still is very good entertainment and makes me laugh watching it. I believe that life is too short to worry about how people judge you and I believe that if someone doesn’t like who I am I can find 10 people that do. I believe that I am who I am through my experiences and would not change myself overnight but I would if my experiences down the line change me.

Protests

To me protest occur when people are not only happy about something they are ready to take the next step and do something about it. Protests are an effective way for a minority point of view or position to have there voice heard. In order for protests to be effective they have to reach out to people who normally would not have there same point of view and change there opinion. What makes a successful protest it one in which reaches most of America. The amount of attention a protest garners and if it gets put on national t.v. it will most likely allow for it to be more successful. There are protests every day that do not get heard because there voice is not shared with enough individuals. Just the other day there was a petition being signed on the drag and as I walked by there without even thinking twice. THey in no way caught my attention or most of the other people that were walking by. There way of trying to get people to sign there petition was ineffective because they did not appeal to anyone that was walking by. Most people are not going to stop for something unless it pops out to them and grabs there attention.
